Chengdu

August 21 - 23, 2006 (Chengdu, Sichuan, China)
I went to the Shanghai Pudong airport with a backpack expecting to be gone for 10 days without any airline or hotel reservations and a spirit for adventure! I bought a ticket to Chengdu in Sichuan province in Central China. When I arrived, I met Laura and Jenny, 2 Canadians who were picking up backpacks and tagged along with them to the Mix Hostel. It was clean with a very friendly staff and the double private room I got cost 1/20 of what I was paying for at the 5 star hotel in Shanghai. First night I checked out a club w/ some singers and performers, next night we had Sichuan "Hot"pot which was nice and spicy. Then the following day, Edaan, Fritha, Peter and I rented these really crappy bikes to get the genuine local flavor and rode around town. We stopped by the silk market, Green Ram (Qingyang) Temple and Baihuatan Park. At night, we went to see a Sichuan Opera performance and went for a late night snack.
