Hanoi, Vietnam

March 3 - 5, 2006 (Hanoi, Vietnam)
In between 2 weeks in Bangkok, Dustin and I rushed to get our visas and plane tickets to Hanoi, Vietnam. We stayed at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi with one of the best views in the city but unfortunately due to the overcast and foggy weather, weren't able to see much from the hotel rooms. Our first day was spent in Halong Bay and after arriving back, dinner at Ming Palace and checking out the New Century Club. The following day we set out to explore Hanoi on foot and saw West Lake, Truc Bach Lake, Presidential Palace and various other governmental buildings, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (inaugurated 1975), One Pillar Pagoda (built 1049), Ho Chi Minh Museum, Temple of Literature (built 1070 to worship Confucius and other famous Vietnamese scholars), Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple reached by crossing the "Rising Sun" Bridge on the lake, the Old Quarter or 36 Streets (commercial district with all sorts of goods for sale and operating for over a thousand years), Cho Dong Xuan (market), and finally getting some real authentic pho off the street for less than $1 and then again at the airport for a little bit more.
