Iguazu Falls - Brazil
January 22, 2006 (Iguazu Falls, Parana, Brazil)
Doug and I woke up early in the morning to go flying! It was a really cool flying adventure on these Trike motorized hang-gliders. Unlike jumping off a cliff in Rio the previous weekend, these light-weight flying contraptions take off and land using a short grassy runway but can fly and land without the motor on with a 360° view and wind blowing in your face. We opted for the longest 30 minute flight with great views of Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant & Dam (largest plant in the World supplying 25% of the power consumed by Brazil and 90% Paraguay), and the Friendship Bridge linking Brazil and Paraguay. Afterwards, we went to see more of Iguazu Falls but this time on the Brazilian side. Looking for more adventure, we went on the Macuco Safari, a boat-ride into the base of the Falls. We got drenched but it was good to cool off and there were great views of Iguazu Falls from the River. After that, we viewed the Falls from land and were even more impressed by the scale and spectacular vantage points that the Brazilian side had to offer. We took an early evening flight back to Curitiba and went to dinner at Beto Batata, a restaurant specializing in fried potato omlette-like dishes! Mmmm...
