Our first day in Agra was highlighted by visits to Sikandra, Agra Fort and a little bit of shopping.

The guards were tough and nasty about charging the foreigner rate quizzing Mr. Ranpuria on who is the foreign minister of India. Foreigner rate costs 25 times the local rate.

Construction of the mausoleum was started by Akbar himself in 1602

Akbar died before his mausoleum was completed so his son Jehangir finished it in 1613

The township of Sikandra is named after Sikandra Lodhi, a powerful King who made Sikandra his capital in 1492

The tomb on display is a replica of the actual tomb which is buried several meters below the surface
