London & Canary Islands Trip
June 30 - July 8, 2001 (London, England & Canary Islands, Spain)
This was a trip planned at the very last moment. I had just finished a project and had a week of free time overlapping the July 4th holiday. Dad was already in the Canary Islands so Alvin and I went online to search for cheap fares to the Islands through any large European city. I would use miles to get out to whatever city we found. Amazingly, we found tickets on Iberian Airlines from London for under $250 on a Saturday to Thursday trip. All other days were over $1,000. I bought the ticket that morning, called United to get the free business class ticket and left out of Washington Dulles that evening. Alvin also had a pretty flexible work schedule and we met in London the next morning. It doesn't get much more last-minute than this.
The Canary Islands are a Spanish autonomous region and are located off the Moroccan coast. We visited two of the Canary Islands: Tenerife, the largest, as well as La Gomera, one of the smaller of the seven islands. Sandwiched around the Canary Islands was a visit to London where Wimbledon was the highlight. All photos taken on the trip are with Alvin's Sony DSC-P1 Digital Camera. I took several rolls with my Nikon 6006 and may scan some in sometime in the future.
