Puno & Lake Titicaca Area

June 8-9, 2001 (Puno, Peru)
We took a long bus ride from Cusco to Puno, where we spent some time on Lake Titcaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Sillustani is nearby and has some very interesting funerary towers to honor the nobility.

The islands are made up of layers of reed which are newly stacked on the top each month as the lower layers slowly rot away

The funerary towers were called Chullpas which can can be as high as 35 feet. They always had an opening on the East side near the base, the size of a person.
