7th Annual Ski Trip - Taos, NM

March 22-26, 2002 (Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Taos, NM)
Taos Ski Valley is known for its dry powder, terrain and sunshine as part of the southern Rocky Mountains.  Taos made the Top 10 in this year's Skiing Magazine survey. Fares to Albuquerque, NM are decent right now so book soon if you're interested. Unfortunately for the boarders out there, snowboarding is not allowed so bring some skis (or convert to short skis/skiboards like I have!).

RSVP
Please let me know your interest level and I will need a firm commitment by Friday 3/1. As usual, we'll handle the condo/hotel and car arrangements depending on the number of people and when they plan on coming. Hope to see you on the slopes!  If you're still seriously considering it, let me know and we can probably squeeze you in.  You may not be guaranteed a bed but we'll make room.

UPDATES
03/03/02: We have a condo booked.  It's run by the same people who run the Twining Condos.  It's a separate 3-condo unit a block closer to the lifts.  Here are the specs:
Al's Run Unit #3 - $260/night, 2BR + Loft, 2BA, sleeps 6.  Living room, dining room, kitchen, washer/dryer.  Hottub on premises.  I knocked the Friday price down so it's consistent for all 3 nights.

My plans changed somewhat due to work.  I will be flying in earlier now at 8:45pm on Friday.  Anish and Rajesh will still head up in the afternoon and take care of checking in.  I will pick up Evan and Carrie in Santa Fe.  Less than 3 weeks away!

02/28/02: Anish and Rajesh will drive up to Taos in one car (Anish will book) sometime in the afternoon on 3/22.  Howard will arrive in ABQ at night (10:20pm), pick up the 2nd car and drive to Santa Fe to pick up Evan and Carrie who will have spent the day exploring there, before heading up to Taos.  Hemang will join us on Saturday.

Lodging Options:
We will try to stay in Taos Village, minutes from the lifts.  There are a few condos available but it's Spring Break so they might not last for long.  Most of them are already sold out but there are 2 that are still available.  Otherwise, we will have to stay in the town of Taos, a half an hour away.
1. Twining Condos - $375 Fri, $335 Sat, Sun.  2BR + Loft + Pull-out sofa, sleeps 8.  Living room, dining room, kitchen.  Indoor Sauna and Hottub on premises.
2. Lake Fork Condos - $295 Fri, $265 Sat, Sun.  2BR + Pull-out sofa, sleeps 6.  Living room, dining room, kitchen.  In-tub jacuzzi for one and sealed off shower that transforms into a steam room...whatever that means.  No common area group whirlpool.  30 seconds closer walk than Twining.

I'm leaning towards #2 since we have 6 people but will book #1 if some more people decide last minute (ie. by tomorrow).  I plan on booking one of these on Friday 3/1.  Let me know if you'd prefer #1 regardless and if there is enough interest, we'll get that.  We will ski or do some activity on Monday in Taos and head back to Santa Fe in the evening for dinner and will stay in Santa Fe on Monday night.  I will look into lodging options.

02/18/02: There are 6 of us confirmed with possibly a few more looking into airline tickets.  Evan and Carrie are arriving earlier on Wed and Thurs and will catch a ride with one of our cars heading up to Taos.  The rest of us are getting in Friday 3/22 either in the afternoon or later that evening.  Anish and I will start looking into housing now.  Looks like we'll look for something close to the slopes.  Maybe a 2 BR condo.  Stay tuned...

02/06/02: Selection of Taos, NM as this year's Ski Trip Destination.  Alaska was the original destination for a week-long skiing/activities excursion.  Alaska sounded like a great plan to begin with, but working out the logistics was somewhat painful with the long distances (Alaska is huge!) and availability of activities. I called a bunch of companies that do excursions outside of skiing and many of them do not offer their services until the Spring. Of the activities that are available, Dog-mushing sounded really cool but they only offer it on week-long trips costing $1000+. Interest was there but not particularly strong so we'll keep Alaska in mind for a trip potentially next year.
